Today is my birthday, I am
forty-six years old. I have to be the oldest player in the league! The
Regent FC have been removed from the league by the League Administrator
and replaced with Raskals F.C. who, coincidentally enough, will The
RazorBacks next opponents. This means we lose the services of Marcus
Cahalin as this new team comprises of his mates and he quite rightly
wants to play alongside them. The Guestbook has been removed from the
website for the foreseeable future mainly due to the moronic and
downright miserable posts added by people not connected with the club
but hopefully this will encourage them to stop visiting as these type of
people are only happy sniping and criticising whilst adding nothing
constructive to anything in life. Still onwards and upwards and looking
forward - the team have only a few games left to the season's end and
with a following wind and some luck we could finish third in the table.
Then it's the end of season awards and the players and team have to
decide if we carry on into the next season. So far it's been mainly
enjoyable, although it does completely destroy Monday nights with the
kick off times, and it's good to see the league is run as strictly as
they said it would be. We've always fielded at least seven players for
every game and results have been respectable but performances could have
been a bit stronger at times. Time to think about it all.... Monday July 7th, 2008
Tonight (written at 6.26 p.m.) The
RazorBacks take on 2 Tone and play in the Division's first reciprocal
fixtures. 2 Tone are without doubt, along side The Regent and Walcot
Allstars, one of the best teams in the Division. In the first game they
stomped all over The RazorBacks and could have won by much more than
5-1. Unfortunately tonight the team is missing Mike Hinde, Jon Litton
and Colin Yates so with another new player drafted in and Darren Wallis
arriving almost at the kick off (he promised) it'll be interesting to
see how the team gets on. Confidence isn't high and most players think
the unbeaten run is going to go south rather rapidly. If we can keep it
down to four most of us will happy....Oh will it's only Monday night six
a side after all! Wednesday, June 18th, 2008
A heavy, heavy defeat a fortnight ago put
the team's position and ability in the league compared to our opponents
in perspective. Losing 8-1 to Walcot might actually do more good
than harm. For instance the Gregory brothers might not turn up ten
minutes before the game having played an hour of 'friendly' five a side
at The Oasis! They looked knackered and they played knackered. Once
again The RazorBacks had to rely on 'players' mates' being brought in
because of unavailability. This will result in a policy of you turn up
every week you play, you turn up when you feel like it and you are
watching! The next week bottom of the table The Bulldog Boys were the
perfect chance to remedy the blues. Unbelievably two players did not
turn up, one on his first game for the club who "has never let me down"
to quote somebody and one who is more regular but did not bother to let
anyone know. Consequently our new star signing will probably never play
for the team and the other player will have to hope that those 'that
select' are feeling generous. The result was a slightly stiff looking
3-1 win. Having said this The Bulldog's goalie performed heroics,
particularly in the first half, and with a tad more luck The RazorBacks
could have got within touching distance of double figures. Tough
decisions have to be made in the coming weeks but only being Monday
night six-a-side the club needs seven or eight reliable players who will
turn up every week no matter how the games or season turns out.
Furthermore if we continue to get fewer than nine players a game - the
subs will have to go up. The Author's subs for the game against The
Bulldog Boys was a wapping £6! No wonder I didn't have a good game! Wednesday, June 4th, 2008
Monday's game is postponed because our
opponents BGA throw in the towel after only two games! They even got a
point in the first game so it wasn't all a disaster. Luckily The Regent
FC stepped unto the breach but unfortunately they have gained BGA's
record, one draw, two defeats, no goals scored and fifteen conceded (The
RazorBacks were handed a 5-0 win). Good news from Monday night was th
appearance of the legendary John 'Paddy' Litton who, on his friendly
game performance will be forcing his way into the team. Next week it's
Walcot Allstars who have lived up to their name by winning all their
matches and conceding no goals. They will turn up and they will give us
a tough game no doubt. Friday, May 30th, 2008
Two games under our belts and five goals
scored and five goals conceded. It should be more scored as the team -
not even in top gear it has to be said - spurned at least a dozen
guilt-edged chances when four goals to the good against Tawny Owl. A
scouting trip by old man Strovey revealed there is nothing to be afraid
of. This remains to be seen but and with Chris Gregory missing this week
and two new players making their debuts it could be interesting against
BGA who lost by ten goals the week before. On the website front we now
have a club shop online and the trading cards are going well. This well
be the most geekish and nerdy six-a-side football team in the world! Monday, May 19th, 2008
The first game is over. Trailing
2-0 early on a careless 'encroaching in the penalty area' penalty gave 2
Tone an insurmountable 3-0 lead and even though Colin Yates scored a
typical Yatesy goal tiring legs and the youthful enthusiasm of the
opposition eventually overcame the stubborn Strover in goal and, it has
to said, a very good 2 Tone ran out comfortable winners by 5-1. Still
onward and upward, with the exception of two players most of the team
have not played on anything like a regular basis in any type of football
and none had really played together. Time will make this team better and
stronger....mark my words Tuesday, May 13th, 2008
Chris Gregory has contacted Leisure
Leagues and it has been confirmed our inaugural six-a-side season starts
on Monday, May 19th, at St Joseph's
Catholic College. The team is to be confirmed, the opponents are
to be confirmed and the time is to be confirmed but the big kick off is
nearly upon us! Bring it on!
The Schedule list and all other details will be updated when we get the
information ourselves!
Just for the time being here are the rules to our new league as printed
on the Leisure League website:
1. The
ball cannot go above head height (head height is judged on the whole
ball passing the height above the tallest player on the pitch).
2. Sliding tackles are not allowed.
3. Back passes to the keeper are allowed, but only if the ball has
touched two players or more after leaving the keeper.
4. When a goal is scored, play is restarted from the keeper.
5. The keeper must roll the ball out below shoulder height.
6. Substitutes are roll on, roll off.
7. No players are allowed in the goalkeeper area.
8. All free kicks are indirect.
9. Players must be two yards from free kicks.
10. When the ball goes out of play, restart with kick in or roll in.
